I’ve always found the bob-style haircut incredibly chic, but I’m the type of girl who can not bring herself to chopping off my long locks. I did take the plunge once, in high school I had a cropped, short style, which I then permed. I’m sure you can use your imagination to picture how that must have looked and easily figure out why I haven’t done much experimenting with my hair since. That’s why I love the idea of a faux bob* for those days when I’m craving an extreme hair makeover, without any of the permanence of an actual trip to the salon.

Faux Bob How To:
1. Take about two-thirds of your hair and pin it up. I use Goody Style Spin Pins.
2. Braid the remaining section of hair and secure it with a hair tie.
3. Pin the braid to your head so that it lays flat. Depending on the length of your hair you may need to spiral it a bit.
4. Let down the hair you pinned up in step 1 and tease the underside. I try to make it as big as possible, don’t worry about it looking ridiculous, you’re going to smooth it down.
5. Smooth the top portion of your hair down and tuck the ends of your hair under the braid from steps 2 and 3. I use the Goody Style Spin Pins to secure the ends under, and then use bobby pins to secure any stray hair and style the hair around my face.
You could also curl your hair for a variation of this faux short style.
