If you follow me on Snapchat you probably have figured out that I’m just kind of obsessed with our pup, Holden. In fairness, I’d always wanted a dog but it was never the right time or situation, so when Holden joined our family it was basically everything. Since he is such an important part of our family and I have become a mildly crazy dog lady, he gets pretty spoiled. I occasionally will whip up a recipe from our dog cookbook (we have this one) or just boil up some rice and chicken. I don’t cook most meals for him, but I do like to make him homemade treats since it’s actually more affordable and super easy. My go-to recipe uses just 3 ingredients — oatmeal, peanut butter, and egg, but sometimes I get fancy and throw in honey, chicken, chicken broth, or maybe even some bacon, depending on what we have in the house at the time. It’s basically like an unsweetened cookie and he loooves them. Super simple and I store them in the freezer so I can make a big batch to keep on hand.
Here’s the recipe:
• 1 cup oatmeal
• 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (we love Skippy Natural Creamy for us humans since it’s made with only four ingredients and doesn’t separate like other “natural” peanut butter, so Holden usually gets this too)
• 1 egg
Preheat the oven to 350, mix it all together and spread it out on a cookie sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Once it cools I cut it into small squares and throw it in a container and into the freezer.
*We also just ordered this dog ice cream for him since he loved this frozen ice cream we got him last summer and I’ve found some cake box mixes for dogs too I’ve linked to below.
